About Dangote Fertiliser Limited

Dangote Fertiliser Limited is Africa’s largest granulated urea fertilizer complex, situated on a sprawling 500-hectare site at Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos, built at a cost of $2.5 billion. It has an annual production capacity of 3 million metric tonnes, designed to meet domestic demand and feed export markets.

Production & Infrastructure

The plant features:

  • 2 × 2,200 MTPD Ammonia units

  • 2 × 4,000 MTPD Melt Urea Plants

  • 2 × 4,000 MTPD Granulation units using premier Halder Topsoe, Snamprogetti, and Uhde technologies

  • A 120 MW captive power station (3 × 40 MW turbines) with auxiliary boilers for full operations.

Designed to deliver urea rich in nitrogen (46%), it reduces fertilizer import dependency, provides local supply stability, and supports export demand.

Strategic Vision & Regional Impact

  • A national engine for fertilizer self-sufficiency, saving Nigeria roughly $500 million annually in import costs and generating $400 million from exports.

  • Currently exports 37% of its output to markets like the U.S., Brazil, India, and regional African markets.

  • Plans underway to double capacity from 3 MMTPA to ~6 MMTPA, expanding into NPK, DAP, and multi-grade fertilizers.
